For the Kids

"Yo' might as well sing grief as cry it!"If you have read the book about Gullah, the Nawleans Cat, you know he had a very big adventure.

Some Katrina children had adventures just like Gullah. Have you had an adventure you’d like to share with other kids? If you want to write a very short story we’d like for you to send it to us. We will publish the very best stories here on your page of this web site.

There are only a few rules to follow, and here they are:

  1. You need to tell us if your story is true or if you made it up. A made-up story is called fiction. You can also write about the book or the pictures. You can write your own story!
  2. You must write it yourself. Mom or Dad can help, but not write your story for you because it is yours to tell!
  3. Your story needs to be short, only 300 words or less.
  4. You need to sign only your first name, your age and the state where you live.
Do NOT give us your last name. When you become a famous author you will sign your last name to your stories.
  5. Email your stories (and drawings too!) to the author at the email address below:

Sandy and I look forward to hearing from you. Happy Writing!
